The winner of the 1942 Preakness Stakes was Alsab, ridden by jockey Basil James and trained by Sunny Jim Fitzsimmons. Alsab was a bay colt who was owned by the wife of financier Harry Guggenheim. He had previously won the Wood Memorial Stakes and the Withers Stakes before claiming victory at the Preakness. Alsab went on to win several other prestigious races during his career, including the Belmont Stakes and the Travers Stakes.
